Sucrose consists of α-D-glucose and β-D-fructose joined through their anomeric carbons: specifically an α(1→2)β glycosidic bond. Because both anomeric carbons participate in the linkage, sucrose has no free anomeric hydroxyl group and is therefore a non-reducing sugar.
